Canine Companion Initiative | RPAG's Commitment to Heroes

At RPAG, we take pride in our commitment to making a positive impact that transcends the world of finance. We are dedicated to the causes that resonate deeply with our team, and we stand firmly behind our nation's heroes and their four-legged companions.

During our recent National Conference, our Chief Relations Officer, Veronica Lee, had the honor of shedding light on the challenges faced by our military service personnel and the remarkable work of Canine Companions. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to providing professionally trained service dogs to those in need. These service dogs offer invaluable support to veterans dealing with a wide range of afflictions, including second and third-degree burns, post-traumatic stress, loss of hearing or sight, and paralysis.

The sacrifices made by our military service personnel are immeasurable. Their journeys on the frontlines are characterized by courage and selflessness, and they often face a challenging transition back to civilian life. Navigating an unfamiliar world with new disabilities can be daunting, but the partnership between veterans and service dogs offers a ray of hope.

Canine Companions: Pioneers in Service Dog Support
Canine Companions, founded in 1975, is the largest nonprofit provider of professionally trained service dogs in the country. Their impactful work includes placing these remarkable dogs with veterans suffering from physical disabilities since 2007. In 2018, they expanded their program to support veterans dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder.

A remarkable aspect of Canine Companions' work is that there is never any charge for the dog, its training, or its follow-up support. They are unwavering in their commitment to these veterans, following the dog's journey from puppyhood to retirement. To date, they have placed over 400 dogs with veterans, creating profound, positive changes in their lives.

The Impact of Service Dogs
Canine Companion service dogs offer more than just physical assistance; they provide veterans with a sense of independence, pride, and hope. The unwavering love and loyalty of a service dog can have a deep and lasting impact, helping veterans cope with difficult emotions that are often challenging to express.

For many veterans, the support of a service dog helps them regain their lives, allowing them to return to being the people they were before their trauma. These extraordinary dogs become true companions, providing solace, understanding, and assistance in a way that is difficult to put into words.
